A place with history. A house with atmosphere.

Our house

A house with heart and history

The listed house has its origins in the gatekeeper's and gamekeeper's house built in 1770 at the entrance to the historic zoo and pheasantry. The building was then extended and turned into a small tavern. What was once a resting place for Saxon electors is now a restaurant consisting of seven individual rooms, an inner courtyard and two terraces, and a boutique hotel with just 33 rooms that combines history with modern comfort. Between the forest and sky ponds, you will find space to arrive, enjoy and breathe a sigh of relief - supported by honest craftsmanship, clear hospitality and the tranquillity of nature.

Location and surroundings

Our house is located not far from Dresden, nestled between woods and ponds, right on the edge of the historic Moritzburg pheasantry. There are many places of interest in the immediate vicinity: On the doorstep you will come across the Fasanenschlösschen with its lighthouse on the large pond; just a short walk away are the baroque hunting lodge of Augustus the Strong and the game reserve, which you can also reach by carriage. Together they characterize the cultural landscape of Moritzburg, where nature and culture come together harmoniously.

Dresden attracts visitors with its magnificent old town, the Semper Opera House and the art treasures in the Zwinger - a feast for architecture and culture lovers. Meissen will delight you with its world-famous porcelain manufactory, the picturesque Albrechtsburg castle complex and the vine-covered slopes of the Elbe. You can reach both cities in a short drive and round off your stay with unforgettable impressions.

Monument ensemble

As an individual monument, the listed Waldschaenke is also part of the Fasanerie area monument. The furnishings of the rooms are reminiscent of the centuries-old history of the Saxon princes. Leather wallpaper and historic Meissen tiled stoves from the time of Augustus the Strong and the famous hunting procession of Prince Johann Georg I (1611-1659) characterize the house, which radiates a special cosiness. In addition to the lobby, the historic building has seven restaurant and event rooms and, with the new hotel wing, 33 rooms

Activities

The immediate surroundings of the hotel are ideal for hiking and cycling. Seven sights alone can be visited on foot or by carriage. Horse riding (Saxon State Stud Moritzburg), hunting and fishing are part of Moritzburg today - as they were then - which has one of the best networks of bridle paths in Germany.

Dresden - the Florence of the North - with its famous art collections and architecture and boat trips on the Elbe, nearby Radebeul with the Karl May Museum and its narrow-gauge railroad that runs to Moritzburg.

Meissen with the Albrechtsburg and its world-famous porcelain manufactory, but also Saxon Switzerland and the Ore Mountains are within easy reach.

History

The house has its origins in the gatekeeper's house built more than 250 years ago at the entrance to the historic zoo and pheasantry. Initially, the building was converted into a gamekeeper's house with a bar and later into a hotel. The centuries-old tradition and long and eventful history of the house is reflected in the fact that the Saxon princes, later the members of the Royal House of Wettin and, after 1945, Erich Honecker and Fidel Castro, as well as Franz-Josef Strauß and, after the fall of communism, Saxon prime ministers and the famous conductor Kurt Masur, often and gladly stayed in the historic rooms.
